HIKE project: Inspiring the next generation of hikers across Europe
The HIKE Project, co-funded by Erasmus+ Sport 2025, aims to reconnect young people with nature through hiking. In collaboration with leading hiking federations, universities, and educational institutions across Europe, the project focuses on integrating hiking into youth education, promoting environmental awareness, and fostering an active lifestyle.
Key objectives:
Encourage outdoor learning – Using hiking as an educational tool for schools and youth programs.
Promote health & well-being – Encouraging physical activity to support mental and physical health.
Strengthen social inclusion – Bringing together young people from diverse backgrounds through outdoor experiences.
Enhance environmental awareness – Educating youth on sustainability, landscapes, and cultural heritage.
Develop training & digital tools – Providing resources for teachers, youth leaders, and hiking instructors.
ERA’s role in the HIKE project
As a full partner, ERA (European Hiking Federation) leads the communication and dissemination of the project across Europe. ERA leverages its extensive network of hiking organizations to share project results, best practices, and educational materials with a wide audience.
Target audience:
- Primary school students – Introduction to hiking and outdoor exploration.
- Teenagers – Combining hiking with cultural and environmental education.
- Educators & youth leaders – Training on navigation, outdoor leadership, and organizing hikes.
Project partners:
The project is led by FEEC (Federació d’Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya), with contributions from FFRandonnée (France), FIE (Italy), the University of Girona, and other European hiking organizations.
