
4th European Trails and Paths conference
9 October – 12 October

The European Mountaineering Association (EUMA) and the European Hiking Federation (ERA), in a close cooperation with the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI), organise the 4th European Trails and Paths Conference with the key themes: Digitization & digitalization and Overtourism.
The Conference will be held from 9 to 12 October 2025 in Macugnaga, Italy.

Call for Abstracts
The European Hiking Federation (ERA), together with EUMA and CAI, invites experts, trail managers, researchers, and stakeholders to actively contribute to the 4th European Trails and Paths Conference, taking place in Macugnaga, Italy, from 9–12 October 2025.
We are now accepting abstracts for presentations that support the conference’s key themes:
Conference Themes:
- Digitization & Digitalization: Using digital tools for sustainable trail management and public access.
- Overtourism: Innovative solutions to protect nature and enhance visitor experiences.
- Common Trail Framework: Toward a shared European understanding of trails for improved recognition and funding.
Submission Timeline:
- 20 May 2025 – Abstract submission deadline (title, summary up to 300 words, keywords in English)
- 04 June 2025 – Notification of acceptance
- 24 June 2025 – Final abstract submission and publication of program
- 20 August 2025 – Final presentation submission (PPT format)
All abstracts and presentations must follow the official format.

Practical Details
- The official language of the conference is English
- Authors are expected to participate in the panel discussions following their sessions
- Abstracts and presentations will be stored in the ERA and EUMA archive and made available electronically after the conference
