12 E-paths One Europe
21/05/2022 @ 08:00 – 22/05/2022 @ 17:00
Campaign by Wandermagazin & OutdoorWelten on E-path E1.
The kick-off event will take place at the Hermanns-Monument in Detmold, Germany. It marks the start of the long-distance hike, divided into four time periods and 78 stages. The last hiking team will arrive in Constance in mid-October 2022.
The hiking summit weekend on May 21st and 22nd, 2022 in the historic park, the Palaisgarten Detmold in front of the Hochschule für Musik, will be remembered for a long time. Not only prominent long-distance hikers such as Joey Kelly (member of the Kelly Family and extreme hiker), Thorsten Hoyer (world record holder for day and night hikes and editor-in-chief of the hiking magazine) or Germany’s current hiking pope and self pro claimed “hiking sensei” Manuel Andrack are expected.
Another highlight is the opening of the European hiking initiative “12 E-paths – 1 Europe” and the start of the first of twelve campaigns in it, dedicated to the European long-distance Path 1 – E-path E1 – , which in this year also celebrates its 50th birthday.
The E1 leads from Hameln via Lemgo directly through Detmold and up to the Hermann Monument. Six hikers from the editorial team of the Wandermagazin (Germany’s most important hiking magazine) will then from 24.5. walk the 1,900 km route (the E1 is over 8,000 km long in total) in 78 stages from Padborg in Denmark via Flensburg to Konstanz on Lake Constance. They present themselves on 22.5. in Detmold before the audience.
While Saturday is dedicated to family hikes and hiking with children, Sunday from 12:00 p.m. will be devoted to the opening of the initiative, the start of the E1 (the path of contrasts) and the awarding of the certificate as a “Quality Hiking Region Wanderbares Deutschland” to the Lippe Tourismus & Marketing GmbH. Prominent guests from the Düsseldorf state government, the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the European Ramblers Association with over 3 million members and the German Hiking Association are expected to attend.
On Saturday evening the artist Sasha & Band will perform on the big stage in the heart of Detmold.
On Sunday, a 16-piece brass orchestra from the Detmold University of Music will play the European anthem and, for the first time, the anthem of the “12 Ways – 1 Europe” initiative. Martin Wiese, composer and university lecturer in Detmold, will present his visions. Before that, the participants of two star hikes (they start from Lemgo and the Externsteine in two groups with the destination Detmold on the E1) arrive at the site around 1:00 p.m., where the moderator Matthias Wolk greets the guests of honor present (including Andreas Pinkwart, Joey Kelly, the founders of the initiative, the district administrator of the district of Lippe) and will guide the visitors through the program.
The crowning glory, in addition to autograph sessions with Joey Kelly, Manuel Andrack , Ewald Lienen and others, of the two-day hiking summit is the presentation of the certificate “Quality Hiking Region Wanderbares Deutschland” by the President of the German Hiking Association to the region Land des Hermann. After that, the Detmold hiking summit ends around 6:00 p.m.
