The European Hiking Federation (ERA) was proud to take part in the 2nd International Conference on Hiking and Mountain Sports, held in Valencia from November 21–23, 2024. This event brought together trail managers, policymakers, and outdoor enthusiasts to discuss critical topics related to sustainable tourism and environmental conservation.
Highlights of ERAs contribution:
- Presentation on the Green Trails Initiative: ERA showcased the development of a certification system dedicated to promoting sustainable trail management across Europe.
- Focus on Sustainability: Discussions emphasized environmental preservation, cultural heritage protection, and responsible tourism practices in line with the European Green Deal.

What’s Next?
The Green Trails Initiative will continue to grow, with pilot testing set to take place on selected trails in 2024-2025. This initiative is a stepping stone toward the broader Hike Green Europe framework, aiming to create educational programs, workshops, and public outreach strategies.
