E6 in Albania

On Saturday, 5 April 2025, ERA President Boris Mićić and the Chairman of the ERA E-paths Working Group Steen Kobberø-Hansen met with representatives from the Albanian Mountaineering Association in Elbasan to discuss the establishment and development of the E-path E6 in Albania.

The purpose of the meeting was to explore how to close some of the gaps between the E6 sections in Slovenia and Greece and to promote Albania as an emerging hiking destination within the European hiking network.

ERA also encouraged the association to mark and promote a pilot section of the E6 in Albania by 2025 as part of the celebration campaign #E6in2025.

On the same day, the local mountaineering club from Elbasan celebrated its 20th anniversary, to which mountaineers from Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Kosovo were invited.

Later in the day, Boris and Steen were warmly welcomed by the Mayor of Elbasan, followed by a media conference attended by the guests.

At the event, Boris and Steen presented the vision behind the E-paths. They discussed the potential of a European Green Belt hiking trail, highlighting the role Albania could play in this initiative.

The evening concluded with a festive dinner party, organised by the local club, where Boris and Steen were joined by their wives, Duda and Vigga, for good food, music, and dancing.

On Sunday, 6 April, the Albanian hosts organized a group hike to the summit of Maja Bukanikut (1,831 m), offering a scenic and symbolic end to the event.

The weekend concluded with a farewell dinner hosted by the association.

ERA expresses its sincere gratitude for the warm hospitality and wishes the Albanian Mountaineering Association great success in developing the E6.

ERA stands ready to offer support wherever and whenever needed.
